What is REDD+?
Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+) is one of the solutions that governments and people around the world are using to deal with the problem of climate change.

Is REDD+ important to me?

Yes. REDD+ has the potential to contribute to reducing illegal deforestation and degradation, curb climate change impacts and enhance gender-sensitive sustainable development.

How is REDD+ linked to corruption?

It is very simple:  weak governance and corruption undermines and is a hindrance to effective and successful REDD+ in PNG!!

Corruption will leave your land bare, forest resources depleted, and affect the livelihood of landowner communities that depend on forest resources.

So why does TIPNG have the RGIF project?

Because we at TIPNG RGFI are concerned about the people and natural resources of PNG. Our strategic priority is to:

  • build the capacity of civil society and stakeholders on REDD+ governance;

  • provide legal advice and support to victims and witnesses of corruption related to REDD+

  • strengthen national and international policies relating to REDD+

  • advocate the corruption risks that REDD+ can bring;

  • Highlight the benefits intended for local communities, which if ignored can jeopardize livelihoods of those communities.

The primary concern is that if landowners are not aware of basic rights and responsibilities in relation to REDD+ they can be easily manipulated.
